I'm from a different era: the "N" word's demeaning.
So I sub the "R" word: relative. I call my black colleagues & neighbor aunt, cuz, sis & uncle. And never tire of showing our photo & asking people, with a seamless, smile if they see the family resemblance.

When they timidly say no, not really I point out family resemblance: same bone structure, chin, eyes, fuzzy hair, nose, smile, etc.
